The first time Poland participated in the Olympic Games was in Paris in 1924. It managed to win two medals. Of these two medals, one was silver earned by cycling team while the other was for equestrian one man show jumping. The country got its first ever gold medals four years later in the Amsterdam Olympic Games. Excellent performance of Poland in the Olympic Games is said to be in the 1970s.

Medal tally

Polish are known to be exemplary performers in the Olympic Games. The nation has managed to scoop a total of 291 medals out of the 16 appearances it has made in the Olympic Games. 132 bronze medals are under Poland's name, followed by 89 silver medals and 70 gold medals. The majority of the medals were earned at the summer games with only 20 medals being won in the winter games.

Polish Athletes

Polish athletic team has proven to be the strongest, having won a total of 23 gold medals. The boxing team of Poland has earned a total of 8 gold medals in Olympics. Wrestling, weightlifting and fencing teams are also major contributors to the tally of medals.

Agnieszka Radwanska, a prolific tennis player; Tomas Majewski, a stunning shot put performer who won a gold medal in the 2008 Olympic Games, and Maja Wloszczowska, known to be the best female cyclist in Poland; are some of the athletes who have brought laurels to Poland during Olympics.

USA is doing tape delay even though we share the same time zone with Rio.

Americans love shaping the narrative and showing all the USA athletes.

So far a pretty shitty Olympics for us. Radwanska out, Janowicz out, Kubot-Matkowski in Tennis out. Our swimming sucks. Our best weightlifters caught doping. Our best woman weightlifter (Piechowiak) injured. Handball team lost both games so far. Our fencing sucks.

Cycling, rowing, and both beach and indoor volleyball has been decent. Hopefully our track and field athletes bring in some medals or this will be one of our worst Olympics in history.

Radwanska always loses in first round in Olympics, for me she is the most overrated female tennis player. Janowicz is shit, Kubot is old (also we never won any medal in tennis like in ever?) the sad news here are the weightlifters but the good news are rowing who are good so far, our Handball team always sucked in olympics and yeah is so sad how fencing went to shit as a polish sport, also what happened with swimming today is just embarrassing. Hopefully we still have a lot of favorite medalist coming the next days.

Hahah ya it has been a brutal showing. "Fortunately" USA only shows Americans/favorites anyway. I caught Polish Mens Indoor Volleyball defeating Iran. We are performing well in the easier side of the bracket but the team isn't quality enough to Gold.

Not sure how much Track & Field I can stomach. It's refreshing to not see many Africans thus far.

Poland volleyball NT always had problems to defeat Iran, mainly because Iran coach was Poland coach many years and he know our NT weakness, also Iran is very good team and that victory was very important to ensure quarterfinals.

The men's Volleyball team is definitely solid enough to compete for gold. But yea...these Olympics have not been looking good.

That being said, first gold! In rowing, women's double sculls.
