Great comment I read about NBC's coverage of the Olympics. How do some of you guys compare?

"Excellent article! NBC coverage is all about making and later marketing American "heroes" in order to make more corporate profits. I used to be able to watch Canadian TV coverage to see what the other non-American athletes were doing but now it has been blacked out in the US by the corporate media so that we are forced to watch the endless stream of Americans competing in meaningless trials, semifinals and finally finals plus countless interviews of American commentators and American winners telling us again and again how hard they had to work and how much they love being American. And the stories of the American athletes drone on and on about how their well-to-do parents had to drive them to practice, pay for their expensive coaching and watch them compete, and how these coddled kids had to miss hanging out with their friends at the mall and partying in order to achieve their Olympic goals that the great majority of kids in the US and the world did not have the money or time to even dream about. "

This is the article
Americans miss out on the best of the Games
http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/03/opinion/g ... -609274957

For example:
"The only time network viewers hear about other athletes, it seems, is when there are suspicions of doping or other violations, which could potentially help Americans. It would seem the rest of the world is there only to serve as the rivals Americans require to conquer the podium."

Anyone witness the huge choke job of Dolega? Man, that was a huge fail. If you're not familiar with weightlifting, there are basically 4 big stars in the 105KG, 3 of the 4 withdrew due to injuries, leaving Dolega and "the others". Dolega should have won by at least 5-7KG, as when he's in form can total over 420. His Snatch has always been iffy, so he comes out and tries to snatch 190KG, near his PB, right off the bat. Now, I'm not sure if it was his choice to come out to that weight or the coaches. I know previously his coach quit because Dolega wouldn't listen and wanted to do heavy/ridiculous weight.

Bonk actually could have won gold today had he went for a 222-223KG Clean and Jerk, right on his PB. Instead they decide to come out to 225KG, which he misses.

Poor tactics/strategy really cost Poland today. Sound familiar?

We were all talking about it in the channel. His coach is a retard. I thought the exact same thing would happen to Bonk in the C&J. Good thing it didn't.

Thanks for the breakdown

Sometimes the athletes get too caught up in putting on a show & but this only works sometimes works to your advantage in scoring events. For example in Womens Gymnastics, Maroney won a Silver although she fell down. Because her difficulty was so much higher than the competition, she was actually getting higher on the Vault than the Mens Gold winner.

Sounds like Bonk only wanted to compete against his best & he lost to everyone along the way

If we consider other races then
- Asian teams population is twice the White teams population

Look at # of Olympians.
- White teams # of Olympians is twice the Asian teams

I called it even. The Asian team falls off majorly after North Korea who only had 51 Olympians. England & Russia were choking before the Gymnastics & Track n Field competitions.

"total duds" like Radwanska and our powerhouse volleyball team.

@Wrona - You posted this before my "duds" were even out. I highly doubt you even woke up at 5AM to watch these "total duds".

But yeah I was very disappointed that they just missed out on the final. Beside Rudisha there were a bunch of guys running 1:43 this season, any of these guys could have gotten silver or bronze. It's a real deep field this year.
