Explosion in Wroclaw. Bus driver was notified of mysterious package left on the bus. He placed it outside and as he was walking back/calling the Police, it exploded. Nails were included in the package.

There is an Anti-terrorist vote occurring tomorrow. "but most likely to recent protests of football hooligans the past few days. The latter is due to a person that died in police custody which sparked violence in vendetta."

So this may be a loaded question, but does the Brexit spell the the begging of the end for the EU? Curious to see what the enlightened ones here think.

Yes, since they were huge contributors and without them, there is a huge hole in the funding. Now other countries like the Netherlands want to hold their own referendum which would probably succeed since they already had one to block Ukraine from being able to join the eu, which they won but the vote got ignored.

Brexit will hurt both the polish people working in the UK, and the people back in Poland which won't get as much money from the eu anymore, but I look at the big picture and a step away from globalism is always a good thing. The eu was originally supposed to be a trade union and even if it dissolves, the trade laws can be left behind.

Those are some good thoughts Nicram!

Your right about the EU being originally created to serve as a trade union; it really has grown into so much more ever since Polska joined in 2004. In some aspects I definently see the benefit of still keeping it around, but there's no doubt that this body has been put on strain these past 2 years. Merkel dictating to the EU states the need to all take in refugees has already had it's impact for one, and with the Brits leaving and taking out a huge pool of funds, this may finally start toning down the EU's aggressive governing. Going to make for some interesting times indeed.

Curious to see if Scotland or Northern Island will now push for referendum's. Both voting maps show they were both huge supporters of staying int the EU.

Scotland already had a vote to leave the uk and decided to stay and i really think they would choose staying in the uk above breaking off to join the eu but you never know.

62% of Scotland voted to stay in the European Union though so its an interesting situation they are in now. Cant have both staying in the UK and in the EU.

Exactly Swosz!

Plus when that vote took place in '14 the situation was different, just like how it's different once again with the British exit. Guess we'll see in the next few years what the Scott's value more, independence or their ties with the EU.

Poland closing local border traffic with Kaliningrad

Residents of Russian exclave deprived of visa-free regime for an unspecified period of time over security concerns.

“The reasons for suspending local border traffic with Kaliningrad have not dissipated. The decision is based on concern over Poland’s security in general. When we’re sure it’s safe, we’ll return to the issue,” Zielinski said, according to Bloomberg.

Ahead of the NATO summit in Warsaw and the Catholic World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland introduced temporary controls on its borders in early July, Radio Poland reports.

Checks on the borders with neighboring EU states and Ukraine were lifted last week, after the Krakow youth festival ended. However, the visa-free regime for Russians in the Kaliningrad exclave will remain suspended.

The ministry said 4.34 million people crossed the Kaliningrad-Poland border in 2015, including 1.3 million Russian citizens.

Talks on re-polonising Pekao bank under way

Michał Krupiński, the head of Poland's biggest insurance company, state-run PZU, has been holding talks on buying back Poland's second-largest bank, Bank Pekao SA, from its current owner, Italy's UniCredit. But many details still need to be worked out. After Poland dumped communism in 1989, its new pro-capitalist leaders began selling off everything in sight to foreign investors and destroying what they couldn't sell under what was called the Balcerowicz plan. The present pro-Polish PiS government inherited a country most of whose industrial assets and retail facilties were foreign-owned including 58% of the nation's banking sector. The buy-back scheme is part of the current Morawiecki Plan which is working to finally make Poles the masters of their own country's economy.

Polish electric bus ousts Mercedes to become “Bus of the Year” 2017

Image

Designed and produced in Poland the Solaris Urbino 12 electric bus has received the prestigious international title “Bus of the Year”. The decision was made by a jury of experts from 20 countries.
Polish electric bus with a pantograph left machines of Mercedes (they presented a vehicle powered by compressed natural gas (CNG)) and Ebusco, Irizar and Van Hool (these producers put on electrical drive) behind. The title was awarded for the year 2017.

“Bus of the Year” has been organised since 1989 by ACE (Association of Commercial Vehicle Editors). This year the presentation of the “Bus of the Year” awards will be held on 21 September 2016 at the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover. Specialist comparative tests of the vehicles ended in June 2016, however, the manufacturers had to wait two months for the results.

Field tests for the vehicles were carried out in Brussels. Acceleration, braking distance, vibration and noise levels, among others, were tested thoroughly. The general evaluation was also influenced by subjective impressions of the individual jurors. A closer look was taken at the buses not only from the driver’s perspective, passengers and their comfort were also taken into consideration.

The winner – Solaris Urbino 12 electric, is an electric city bus featuring two independent charging systems. The bus can be charged by plugging it into a traditional energy socket or by using a pantograph (typical for trolley buses), so that the bus can be connected to the network suspended over the streets.

Solaris Urbino 12 electric is equipped with batteries of a total capacity of 240 kWh. During the tests, the energy was replenished by an innovative charger boasting the capacity of 80 kW developed by Ekoenergetyka – Polska (Polish supplier of customised charging stations for electric vehicles and charging infrastructure management systems). During the tests the bus was also charged using a pantograph.

Poland's standard of living rises fast

The standard of living in Poland has improved faster than in countries located in the south of Europe and even in some rich western European nations, according to this year's edition of the sustainable development index SEDA, the Rzeczpospolita daily wrote.

The SEDA, or Sustainable Economic Development Assessment, is a measure used by Boston Consulting Group to assess and compare the quality of life in 162 countries across the world.

Norway once again topped the ranking, but Poland was placed relatively high, in the 30th place, just behind Spain and ahead of some countries with a higher GDP, including Italy, Rzeczpospolita reported.

Poland was once again among the five countries that make the best use of their economic development, or most effectively translate the growth of their wealth into an improved standard of living of their citizens.

As a result, the standard of living in Poland is not much different anymore from that in southern European countries, Rzeczpospolita said.

My research has revealed Essex is harsh on even Native Brits. We know how I feel about Polish immigration policy, so instead of being a hypocrite I respect the Native Brits perspective. On the other hand maybe it's easier for me to say this as an immigrant in the USA - where indeed there is regional pride but for the most part there isn't much of a backlash against (legal) Immigrants in America.

IMO leftist media is focusing on Polish stories because inter-continental conflict hits closer to home than "those ethnics/refugees". And it's used to create empathy in Poland for foreigners.

I couldn't take you seriously before, but calling The Sun a leftist mag is just autistic.

Fellas, I'm not calling this article/publication left. I'm saying there has been a distinct focus on these stories post Brexit [mean Anti-Polak notes left on a neighborhood street]. Has there been an increase in hate crime against Poles - probably. But Britain had 573 murders last year. I doubt every murder gets front page notice. This story is sexy because it involves a hate crime against immigrants.

I am just saying remain weary of the underlining narrative: Poles in Britain are no different than Nigerians in Britain because we both face hate crimes.

No that is not what we can take from this at all.

Poles get targetted now by British-first lewandowskielbasa types Brexiters because it is "ok" to beat up a Polish immigrant since they are white, while it would be racist to beat up a Nigerian or Pakistani.
