Who will win Ekstraklasa? Who will get relegated?

Post by chrisp11 » Wed Nov 27, 2013 4:56 pm

I want to get everyone's opinion on which team might win the Ekstraklasa ad who might get relegated.
Does anyone think Wisla Krakow might win? That has been my team for a long time? Will Biaska Biala avoid relegation again?
Let me get your thoughts.

First of all Welcome to the Forums!

But these questions should really be asked in our Ekstraklasa thread.
ps.com has seen napster, aj axurre, rasiak, msn messenger - all of them - come and go quietly into the good night, and here it stands - a profitable internet giant in the face of all obstacles making a tidy profit from google adsense - JDE

I wrote something about that in the EK thread months ago and nobody ever responded, so might as well do it here.. Wisla is 6 points behind and Lech is 8 so its a decent cushion we have. Gornik is closest but after Losing Nawalka and who knows who else in the winter window I'm pretty sure they're going to trail off in the Spring. Obvious choice is Legia, even though this stupid fucking point reduction will make it closer. We need this winter window badly to heal up this hospital we have going on and hopefully sign a decent striker and maybe another defender. 3 mil from Furman and the loss of Suler's wages should help with that.

Relegation wise, I just really hope it isn't Zaglebie.. new stadium and the 3rd most expensive team in the EK and they still suck year in year out. I'd hate to be a zaglebie fan lol. My picks are Podbeskidzie and Widzew.. PBB is a 1 liga team and widzew have been terrible, they aren't allowed to spend any money and are in huge debt, plus their stadium is a dump. Outside pick is Ruch, they're surprisingly playing a lot better under Kocian but they still have a very weak squad.

Zaglebie have been ever so slightly better under Lenczyk and Lenczyk has a history of tight defensive tactics that could see them through. I'd place my vote on them pulling themselves out of the relegation zone by seasons end.

But the points halving puts that prediction and any other viable prediction to hell. It could be anybody who falls in the bottom half that gets relegated.

What do you mean no one ever responded :?:

And then from I-Liga Gornik Leczna, GKS Belchatow and GKS Katowice could potentially be promoted...

And from II-Liga if Stal Mielec keeps it up (2nd place currently) they would get promoted to I-Liga from third league to first league in 1 year :!:

Pod and Pogon are the only teams left in EK with those dump stadiums. How times have changed

This is crazy..I never knew Biaska Biala had a dump stadium. I am supposed to go and play for Biaska Biala actually but now I am having my doubts. I am a fullback and 21 from Canada with polish roots. I really do think they will get relegated this year though. They were lucky to stay up this year. I would also say Legia Warszawa is the clear favorite to win it. I also feel that Gornik Zabrze will end up somewhere midtable. Just like you mentioned, with their coac now with the National Team, it will be hard for them. I don't even know how they managed to keep up with the big dogs thus far.

I think Gornik has a shot at 4th place, especially since Slask are an absolute disaster right now. And with their money problems I don't think its gonna get much better in the spring.

I'm gonna predict Legia finishes 1st and if Lech keeps this form up, they might steal 2nd from Wisla, with Gornik in 4th.

As for 1 Liga.. I'm really hoping Arka makes it back, and it'd be nice to see Gieksa in the EK.

What about Pod?
They will take players?
They are on the verge of getting relegated no doubt.
They cannot repeat what they did last year.

He means its Lodz with the dump of a stadium.. Podbeskidzie is building a new one, its already looking decent. As far as playing there man I have no clue. All teams have websites, maybe you'll find more information or somebody you can contact there.

Oh, I did not know Podbeskidzie was building a new stadium.
I know they have a small stadium now though.
I have visited their websites, but haven't had much luck in the previous months trying to get some contacts.
It is hard.
If they build a new stadium, lets hope that they don't get relegated.
It would be a shame to build a new stadium and get relegated, as a result.

I just realized when you guys talk about certain teams that should be relegated enforces the idea that EK should have 14 teams instead of 16 as it is now.

With 14 teams it would mean more better match-ups and more money to clubs from tv deal, sponsorships etc which means more money to invest into grassroots

Well every year we talk about which two clubs shouldnt be in EK because they are constantly broke (W Lodz) or too small (Pod, GKS etc).

I think one way that would be faster to improve the quality of the league and players is maybe even have 12 teams in EK only. When EK will be producing more quality players than it needs then we can talk about expansion again...

Its what is happening in 2-Liga right now after this season.

Staying in Ekstraklasa is the only thing keeping many of those clubs alive.

I think it would be better for the league if it reduced the number of teams.
The better players would be scattered throughout the whole league.
Could even bring in some good foreign players.
It seems that every season Lodz will be in the EK, despite their issues.
Small clubs like Pod will eventually get relegated.

Tell that to Polonia Bytom and LKS Lodz.

Clubs can accumulate debt no problem, that isn't an issue as they don't really have to pay the debt back immediately. But if they get relegated to I Liga and there is no chance at hell they will ever become a viable Ekstraklasa club able to pay its debt back, then that is when liquidation happens.

The changes in II Liga might be good in the long run (Which I somehow doubt. We aren't ready for that yet, we should wait until its viable like what Germany did with their 3 Liga) but it will cause more than half of those clubs to default.

For sure when clubs get relegated to 1 Liga, it will be hard for them to pay the debt.
In saying that, I believe what is happening in the lower leagues, will be good for the future of poland football.
I just hope that there will be no negatives or little negative points as a result.

I've seen many well respected people in Polish football speak out against the changes by the PZPN in lower league Poland. Michal Zachodny here or Ryan Hubbard here for example.
