World Cup 2018 Draw

Post by *Chris* » Mon Nov 27, 2017 4:09 pm

So I was bored and did some math. Maybe someone will be interested in it before the draw (Dec 1). The most likely combination (%24 chance) for Poland is for them to draw European from Pot B, African from Pot C, and Asian from Pot D.

Chances for Poland's dream group
(Peru, Iran, Panama) = 1.17 %
(Peru, Costa Rica, Saudi Arabia) = 2.68 %

Pot B..............................................................Pot C...........................................Pot D.....................................Chance
Europe...........................................................Africa........................................ Asia........................................ 24.00%
South America........................................ Africa........................................ Asia........................................ 9.38%
South America........................................ Europe........................................Asia........................................ 8.04%
Europe...........................................................North America........................Asia........................................ 6.67%
Europe...........................................................Asia........................................ Africa........................................ 6.67%
Europe...........................................................Africa........................................ North America......................6.00%
North America........................................ Africa........................................ Asia........................................ 4.29%
South America........................................ Europe........................................Africa........................................4.02%
North America ........................................ Europe........................................Asia........................................ 3.57%
Europe...........................................................North America........................Africa........................................3.33%
Europe...........................................................Asia........................................ North America........................3.33%
South America........................................ North America........................Asia........................................ 2.68%
South America........................................ Africa........................................ Europe........................................2.34%
South America........................................ Africa........................................ North America ........................2.34%
South America........................................ Asia........................................ Africa........................................ 2.34%
South America........................................ Europe........................................North America......................2.01%
North America........................................ Europe.......................................Africa........................................1.79%
South America........................................ North America......................Africa........................................1.34%
North America........................................ Asia........................................ Africa........................................ 1.19%
South America........................................ Asia........................................ Europe........................................1.17%
South America........................................ Asia........................................ North America.........................1.17%
North America........................................ Africa........................................ Europe........................................1.07%
South America........................................ North America......................Europe........................................0.67%
North America........................................ Asia........................................ Europe........................................0.60%

Worst(hardest) to best(easiest) draw by Pots IMO.

Pot 2
1. Spain
2. Uruguay
3. Mexico
4. England
5. Colombia
6. Croatia
7. Switzerland
8. Peru

Pot 3
1. Denmark
2. Costa Rica
3. Egypt
4. Iceland
5. Sweden
6. Senegal
7. Iran
8. Tunisia

Pot 4
1. Nigeria
2. South Korea
3. Serbia
4. Japan
5. Morocco
6. Australia
7. Saudi Arabia
8. Panama

Would be ideal if we get the bottom 2 teams out of any of those pots.

All of our Group matches and either Round of 16 possibility will be located in Western Russia. Expect a large Polish presence at matches!

There's certainly been more interesting groups/matchups in previous World Cups. I don't see a "group of death", no doubt the result of the new draw format where all teams are seeded based on their ranking.

Group A by far the easiest group and Group D the toughest!!! Poland is in a group that is VERY unpredictable and will need to b on there game in all 3 matches... They could be top of group or could find themselves bottom :?
The only CONCERN now is that the boyz stay in form and don NOT pick up any injuries :!:
Milik is the key injury currently that I am concerned with - he is NEEDED to provide Lewi with help & space...

Defeating Belgium in the R16 and losing to Germany in the QuarterFinals is pretty much my goal/prediction. I think that is very do-able

No one is thinking we get out of the group... everyone loves Columbia and Senegal. Pretty crazy. We were the Pot A team. This group sucks for us. We have to play our A game...Senegal is fast as hell...and Columbia can play, look at the last world cup....I do not like this draw at all. We need Lewy and Milik to click, Zielinski needs to step up and our back 4....yikes I cringe because we are so old back there and Senegal and Columbia have crazy speed....

I got nervous goosebumps just watching that. In a way, this group reminds me of Euro 2012 where it all began. That was also a very even group and our inexperience showed over 3 matches. Now going on 6 years later we have the calm and collected experience on our side. Looks like the only consistent opinion is Colombia at the top and Japan at the bottom

Ya, I know what you mean. In that case fortunately there is a 4th team in this scenario Japan and they are more than capable of playing spoiler to an over confident South America / Africa team

How do you like the order of games for us I.E. playing the pacey Africans first when we still have our legs. Then the biggest challenge in the middle and finish with calculated Japan

It just feels like 1 of the 3 favorites will lay an egg. Hopefully not us.

very interesting group, I can see us finishing first or last...realistically :)

Anyways, the draw is fair in my opinion, decent groups (D looks tough) - the only thing I hate is that we got a late group....I think the tournament schedule is a lot tighter for us, meaning less time in between games....this only favours really deep squads....remember Poland-Switzerland, they had 2 days extra days rest in the round of 16 and had so much more energy....when it went into extra time we were really lucky they didnt score and played for penalties, and went through....

But overall, excited for tournament....hope for the best, hope we get some cool friendlies leading up :)
