Poland's Future stars

Post by tpolish » Mon Jun 27, 2016 12:24 pm

I'm pretty new to posting but I've been regularly reading this board since before the 2012 Euro cup. I won't pretend to be an expert but I've become a huge fan of Polish soccer.

I don't remember the time when guys like Lewandowski and Blaczykowski came up as youngsters but do we currently have any prospects that are as highly rated as Lewandowski was when he was 18-20 years old? I remember watching the world cups back in the 2000's and the one thing we were always missing was a true star player. Even looking back at the 2012 team, we really only had Lewan, Kuba and Pisczek that were playing on major teams. The rest were guys that don't even play on the current National team. I feel like one thing we have improved greatly but still have lots of room to improve is overall depth. Now we have at least 7 or 8 guys that have solid international experience now but we still need a few more (especially in the midfield) and some super subs.

So my big question for those with more knowledge, is who are our top 5 or 10 rated prospects? I see we have guys like Kapustka, Zielinski, Stepinski and Linetty and of course Milik currently on the National team but who's the next big star and how would you rate them?

Also, what happened to guys like Wolski and Matuszcyk who were young guys on the 2012 team? I remember watching highlights of Wolski long ago and thought he was the next Polish messi. How about guys like Kownacki and Bielik? What's their ceiling?

Would love to see other peoples list of top prospects, especially those that could contribute for the next World Cup potentially. Here's is my totally uneducated and quickly researched list. Please feel free to rip it apart and add other names.

1. Zielinski
2. Kapustka
3. Kownacki
4. Bielik
5. linetty
6. Stepinski
7. Wolski

@tpolish - Wolski has found his form ever since coming back to Poland. Too bad he wasted away in Italy and Belgium. But, looks like Lechia are a very motivated team and I think they will be top 2 this year.

Swosz has a good list but I would change 3 names - I like Stepinski, Kownacki, Frankowski in the attack. We all know Milik potential, he is showing it at Ajax. I am hoping the guys in this list will also do well.

GK: Bartłomiej Drągowski - 18 - Jagiellonia Białystok
RB: Paweł Stolarski - 20 - Lechia Gdańsk
CB: Michał Helik - 20 - Ruch Chorzów
CB: Sebastian Rudolf - 21 - Pogoń Szczecin
LB: Hubert Matania - 20 - Pogoń Szczecin
CDM: Krystian Bielik - 18 - Arsenal
CM: Karol Linty - 21 - Lech Poznań
RW: Przemyslaw Frankowski - 21 Jagiellonia
LW: Bartosz Kapustka - 19 - KS Cracovia
ST: Dawid Kownacki - 19 - Lech Poznan
ST: Mariusz Stepinski - 21 - Ruch Chorzow

Jastkowice - fair enough I just went with guys who are under 23. Milik is already a proven star and id replace him with Kownacki too.

Wolski has a lot to prove still. He had a good second half of the season when he returned to Poland but has been very disappointing abroad. I hope he has a good full season at Lech and stays 2 years before trying to move abroad again. Luckily he is only 23, still hasn't reached his prime and has time to turn it around.

Awesome thanks guys. Any of these guys as highly regarded as Lewandowski was or has the potential to be a world class player?

I noticed guys like Krychowiak and Glik were not on the Euro 2012 squad and were around their mid 20's back then. Were they late bloomers or bad coaching decisions back then? Guys like that give me hope for guys like Wolski or other youngsters to develop.

Well looks like Krych was 22 back then so was still pretty young. Hopefully we find a few more like him!

Future looks bright! Thanks for the videos. I really like Wolski's game and hope he makes it. The clip at 2:15 is awesome. We need a guy that can create his own chances and set up other guys. Does he have a pretty similar game to Kapustka? They look pretty similar.

I'll have to start paying more attention to the Polish leagues now. My family has been Wisla Krakow since I was a little kid but not much to cheer for lately.

Krychowiak now at PSG, Zielinski, Kapustka, Wolski, Milik, Lewandowski, Linetty. Were going to get very, very good. As a US fan I'm optimistic now with Pulisic. But, I'm much more optimistic of Poland's future. I think Euro 2016 is a good sign of things to come. But, were going to get very good. Very quick. WC 2018, depending on how fast some develop. Could be sick.
